Myrtle’s Chicken and Beer in Market Square has become my go-to place on Market Square. Comfort food, craft beers, and cocktails is the theme and let me tell you… they do all of it so well and some cheesy biscuits that give Red Lobster a run for their money. I might have eaten two. Let’s just say I didn’t order any myself, oops… sorry friends.
For starters, I order fried pickles. They were heavily breeded with a hint of spice and they send some buttermilk ranch dressing with them. I think you can leave it out and just eat the fried pickles though.
For my meal, I ordered a salad. I know… I know… don’t worry loves, I got to nibble on other stuff as well. I ordered Rotisserie Chicken Salad with Benton’s Bacon, avocado, and other yumminess. It was really good, but the bacon made it a little extra salty so have an extra beer on hand. I got to try the original fried chicken and boy oh boy, it was cooked like my Granny made it. It was perfectly fried and breaded and will definitely be my next order. Now let’s go on to my favorite part of my dinner, the cheddar biscuits. These buttery cheddar blobs from Heaven where amazing. No extra butter needed and they are seriously worth the calories for sure.
Now the beer. Myrtle’s had lots of local beer. The sheer volume of it almost forces you to taste outside of your comfort zone and try something new. It was refreshing!
All in all, this is a great restaurant if soul food and a great outdoor setting is what you are wanting. Even on a rainy day I enjoyed sitting outside, but don’t worry. The inside is just as pretty with its rustic look and wooden tables. The friendly staff is the finishing touch that makes this is a perfect place for a work lunch, date night, or even a quick dinner by yourself.
