Background:

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (July 9, 2018) – Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett will join professional representatives from Knox County Stormwater and Knox County Senior Services for the debut of Knox County’s second public mural project at Karns Senior Center on July 17th at 4:30p. The event is open to the public, and other elected officials may be in attendance.

The mural illustrates the relationships of local stream ecosystems and serves as an educational tool to those who use the Karns Senior Center and the Knox Co Sportspark. The design of the mural reflects a colorful stream scene focusing on streamside plants and trees that help contribute to a healthy stream. The species depicted in the mural are those living in and along the streams specific to East Tennessee. This mural will help to raise public awareness of the importance of protecting and conserving our local creeks, streams, and rivers. The mural will also enhance the appreciation for Knoxville area’s art community by beautifying an otherwise white wall through the work of Jillian Hirsch, a local artist.

This project is funded under a Grant Contract with the State of Tennessee.
