Here is installment two of your New Year, New You blog series! I headed to Real Hot Yoga at 8023 Kingston Pike Suite 5, in the same shopping center as Trader Joe’s.
So you may be asking yourself, what is Real Hot Yoga? It’s exactly what it sounds like: yoga done in a precise temperature (which is….not surprisingly….hot) and humidity control that makes sure you sweat while you do yoga. The room reached temperatures around 95 degrees when I was there and boy did I sweat.
Wondering why would one need to do real hot yoga? Yoga itself has many benefits as far as teaching you to reduce stress. It helps you focus better and helps you find a calmer and quieter mind. The physical benefits are it can help you lose weight, tone your muscles, increase flexibility and help you in your cardio.
I have NEVER done any kind of yoga ever. The class that I took was a 90 minute level one class. They have all sorts of different classes from short classes to beginners to very advanced class.
You will need a yoga mat, a hand towel, and water for the class. If this is your very first class at real hot yoga they will provide you with everything you need, but only for the first class you take.
My first time in yoga class everyone seemed pretty chilled and quiet. I’m used to lots of yelling and talking at my gym classes and this class was NOT like that. I had to really focus on balance and breathing. Every move came with a “breath in and breath out, breath in and breathe out”. Being very high strung, this drove me crazy. Once I got past getting light headed from all the deep breathing, I finally got the hang of it.
The instructor tells you what to do, but doesnt show you. I felt pretty blessed that I made a friend who I could follow along with. The moves were not hard at all, but I could definitely tell it was toning my body. The instructor came and would move my foot or help me if needed it. She did it in a nice way, not in a way that made me feel stupid or awkward.
I definitely worked up a good sweat, but it wasn’t bad. I will definitely go again with a mindset that I need to chill out more. I was super excited that we were doing tricep pushups, but don’t worry… we did 10 and were done. Real Hot Yoga will definitely teach you to slow down and focus instead pushing you to your limit of dying. This is more about your mind AND body. All in all… I recommend it to everyone! The class was full of all sorts of different body types and ages. We had a great mix of both men and woman, older and younger and event 2 body builders.
